Re-Imagining Your Life
Is it Time To Shake Things Up?
Winter has arrived, fall is over, so it is time to think about what your future goals will be and how to get there.
Ask yourself... "Is it time to think about a new and exciting path for my future?"
If your answer is "yes," the follow-up question is: "How can I make that happen?"
First of all, assess your situation. What best describes you?
Unemployed or seeking a new opportunity?
Contemplating a career or industry change?
Recent college grad?
Just out of the military and re-entering the workforce?
Do you want or need a change?
Defining Your Passion
Whatever your current situation, it is best to think through what your passion is, what you most enjoyed in your previous roles, whether hobby or career, and start there. If you are going to seek career advice, do you know someone who can walk you through this process? If you seek a career professional, what is the outcome you need and feel will be most beneficial?
At some points in your life, you may experience economic pressure to find a new job or second job. You may feel that you do not have the freedom to explore all the options that could lead you to your perfect career. While you might pursue a short term opportunity to help you survive, never stop the search for what drives your passion. You may find that your source of fulfillment does not lie in the workplace or that finding your professional niche requires more training or experience.
Maybe you want to delve into new and favorite hobbies or volunteer for a particular cause, or change careers. Whatever you envision yourself pursuing in the future, start now. Begin your research, seek out an advisor to walk you through the process. Reward yourself with a fresh start and renewed focus and energy. When you make a positive change in your life, somehow, it gives a renewal of energy, and with that renewed energy, you feel so much happier to be alive, and it shows!
Life involves looking ahead; open yourself to the unknown. It could be taking up a musical instrument, or a voice lesson. Maybe it's joining an organization with a group of individuals who can offer you ideas and a different focus, to help you on your way.
Pursuing a New Path
Having goals in life is important to getting anywhere. Even if your focus is on just "being" rather than "getting somewhere," you are still on a journey that can lead to fulfillment. Learn the steps you must follow if you want to get on the new road. Think about how you define success. Finding enjoyment in learning to play the piano probably won't lead to Carnegie Hall, but can give you fulfillment and pleasure.
Just venture into the unknown. You may ask yourself, what if the path I choose proves not to suit me? Many paths lead to reinventing yourself. Remember it's not an "all or nothing" choice. Take your time, ease into it, take baby steps.
The key here is, you only live once, so step out and try something new - shake it up!
Enjoy your winter, whether it be skiing down that slope, or sitting in front of the fire and reading a good book. There is something out there for all of us - Do It Now!
